The Bayside Tradition

For nearly 40 years Bayside Farm was one of the most popular summer resorts in Nova Scotia. Year after year, visitors from across Canada and North America would travel to this well-known Digby County farmhouse to experience rural Atlantic Canada at its very best. Now, you can once again experience a Nova Scotia farm vacation at Bayside (and it's a great location for a Nova Scotia wedding or family reunion)!

This large Victorian home was originally owned by the Sabean family and was built prior to 1872. That year Dan Webster Sabean sold the home to Gilbert Lent. It was Gilbert's son Fred who established "Bayside Farm Inn" during the first half of the century. Fred Lent and his wife, Ethel operated the inn from the late 1920's to the early 1960's. The inn consisted of five rooms (upstairs), a tennis court, a swimming pool (across the road) and four cabins on the grounds of the farm.

Historic Heritage Property

In 1991, Louise and Roger Mullen of nearby Weymouth purchased Bayside Farm. The Mullens re-constructed the large 'back' extension to the house that had been torn down in the 1970's and extensively restored the old property. In 1999, the 90 acre farm was declared an Historic Heritage Property in Digby County.

Now, after an absence of over 40 years, the tradition of Bayside Farm has been revived. Although the main house at Bayside Farm will not operate as an inn in the foreseeable future, four cottage rental units have been added to the new farm and cottage complex. One of the four cottage units (recently restored and enlarged) was part of the original 'Bayside Farm' resort.

It should be noted that while the main farm house at Bayside Farm will not operate as an inn, the house has been approved as a guest house by Tourism Nova Scotia. The entire house including the tennis court and all rooms within the main farm house is now available for selective rental.
