Looking for things to see and do in Nova Scotia? Consider Digby County, among the most picturesque and historic regions of the province and a great place to visit on Nova Scotia vacation. The region is a symphony of contrasts, dotted by small farms and large tracts of forest land in the interior, and miles of rugged shoreline, small fishing communities and historic homes and lighthouses along the coast.

Bayside Farm & Cottages is in Weymouth North, about a 15-minute drive from the town of Digby, the largest community in the county. The MV Fundy Rose provides an important ferry service between Digby and St. John, New Brunswick. The ferry terminal is about 25 minutes from Bayside Farm.

The farm is about a 5 minute drive from Weymouth, a village of rolling hills and restored Victorian homes near the mouth of the Sissiboo River. The river is a popular water route for kayaking and canoeing enthusiasts and organized tours of the area are available. Every summer from mid June to mid September, you can enjoy the famous Weymouth Historical Teas held at the former St. Thomas Anglican Church and organized by Weymouth Historical Society.

Bayside Farm overlooks St. Mary’s Bay – a large body of water that separates the Digby Neck peninsula from the coastal mainland of the province. Brier Island and Long Island, beyond Digby Neck in the Bay of Fundy, are among the most popular whale watching and birding destinations in Atlantic Canada. A hike to the ‘Balancing Rock‘ on Long Island is a day trip worth exploring.

Special Events

The region is celebrated for its several exciting and colourful festivals during the summer months. Scallop Days in Digby attract thousands of visitors every year who are drawn to the town for the annual street parade and entertainment, and for of course, the opportunity to taste the world famous Digby scallops. On July 1st is Weymouth Days, the village of Weymouth’s annual celebration of Canada’s birthday, a major event in the village that has attracted local farmers, visitors, and outdoor and sporting enthusiasts for decades! Also in July is the Festival Acadien de Clare held annually in Church Point, Digby County. The event is the oldest Acadian festival in the world!
